The difference between steel, Kevlar, and last material. Ceramic
There are many differences between our bulletproof plates. Our most popular bulletproof plates that we sell is our steel plate. This plate is for someone like a police officer, who risks his/her life everyday. The second option we have when choosing a plate, is Kevlar. Kevlar is a light weight plate but does not provide much protection. Our third and final material that we use in our plate carriers is ceramic. Ceramic plates would be used by someone that does not need a lot of protection because this vest shatters on impact. Depending on how much protection you need, is which plate you will choose. These plates all provide different levels of protection and weigh differently.
Steel plates are our most sold plates, they come standard with most bulletproof vest. The steel plates will give you the most protection from all types of ammunition. There are different levels of protection for the steel plates. The lowest and least protective plate is the NIJ level 1, these plates go up to NIJ level 5. The NIJ level 5 plate will give you the most protection. The NIJ level 5 plate protects from nearly all guns and projectiles. This plate is advised if you work in a high-risk field. However, if you are not in need of as much protection, you may choose to go with a lower level NIJ plate.
Kevlar plates are a lot different than steel but similar to ceramic. If you struggle with carrying the bulletproof vest that hold steel plates then Kevlar may be a better option. Kevlar is similar to ceramic plates, because they are both lightweight options to use. However, Kevlar is made by weaving or laminating many layers of fibers. If you need to run or be on your feet all day, Kevlar will make it easier to do these things. This bulletproof plate can provide some protection from handguns and small projectiles, but I would not suggest using this vest if you’re in a high-risk situation.
The third material that can be used in a bulletproof vest is ceramic. The biggest advantage to using ceramic plates is that they are lighter then steel plates. Ceramic is designed to break on impact if shot with a powerful gun, compared to steel which should never break. Most ceramic plates can take around 6 hits before shattering. However, when a ceramic plate is hit in the same place twice, it could cause puncture. This vest is perfect for someone that needs a lighter bulletproof vest and needs a little amount of protection.
In conclusion, when it comes to buying a bulletproof vest, you have a few options for the plate you use. Generally, most people that are looking for a bulletproof vest, pick the steel plates. This is because they may work a high-risk job such as; police officer, SWAT, or army. The second most purchased plate is the Kevlar plate. This plate will protect your average citizen without weighing you down like a steel plate will. The third and final option when selecting a plate for your bulletproof vest is ceramic. Ceramic plates aren’t very reliable if you think you could be in a firing zone. However, some individuals choose this plate because they want to go hunting with protection but not be weighed down by a bulletproof vest. All these vests can save your life, but you want to select the one that is right for what it is being used for.
